Countess Gertrude
Dyed and undyed Merino wool, undyed Blue Faced Leicester wool, upcycled silk scarf scraps, undyed habotari silk scraps. Wet felted.
This is a wet felted portrait inspired by the character of Countess Gertrude in the renown books of Gormenghast by Mervyn Peake. Her ponderous calm and determination are set against the stony background of her room in ancient Gormenghast itself. Nuno felted silk scraps add textured details to her black dress, and there are bird shapes in her towering red hair and around her.
This small square portrait (around 39x39 cm in size, unmounted) will stand out and define a small space.
